From Beach to Bush: Brisbane Family Photography Locations
Finding the perfect spot for family photos can be tough, but don’t worry—I’ve got you covered! Brisbane and its surrounding areas offer a variety of picturesque locations that are perfect for capturing those natural, candid moments with your loved ones. Whether you're looking for a beachside backdrop or something more green and lush, there’s something for everyone. Here are five of my favourite locations for where to take family photos in Brisbane:
1. Currumbin Beach, Gold Coast
If you're willing to take a short drive from Brisbane, Currumbin Beach at the Gold Coast is worth every minute. This spot offers a dreamy mix of golden sand, crystal-clear waters, and the iconic rocky outcrop of Elephant Rock. It’s the perfect place if you’re looking for a relaxed, beachy vibe for your family photos. Sunrise shoots here are especially magical, as the soft light adds a beautiful glow to the pictures. Plus, after the shoot, you can make a day out of it by enjoying the nearby cafés or letting the kids splash around in the shallows.
2. Oxley Creek Common
For families who prefer a more natural and serene environment, Oxley Creek Common is a gem. Located just 20 minutes from the Brisbane CBD, this location has wide-open fields, walking paths, and plenty of tall trees that create a calm, rustic feel for your photos. It's an ideal spot for families who love the outdoors. In the late afternoon, the golden hour light creates a warm and dreamy backdrop as it filters through the trees. Oxley Creek Common is great for little ones who love to run and explore—it allows them the space to be themselves, and we can capture those genuine, playful moments.
3. New Farm Park and Brisbane Powerhouse
New Farm is an iconic spot that offers variety, which is perfect for family photos. Start your session at New Farm Park, where the sprawling rose gardens, big shady trees, and riverside views provide endless options for backdrops. If you’re after something a little more urban and edgy, the nearby Brisbane Powerhouse offers industrial architecture and textured walls for a more modern Brisbane family photoshoot. You can easily transition from soft, natural shots in the park to something bold and fun around the Powerhouse. Plus, there’s plenty for the kids to enjoy here—after the shoot, they can have a run around the park or enjoy a treat from one of the nearby cafés (or an ice cream from Ruby the Little Red Ice Cream Van).
4. Kangaroo Point Cliffs and Boardwalk
Kangaroo Point Cliffs offer one of the most iconic views of Brisbane’s skyline, with the Brisbane River winding through the city. This spot is perfect for families who want a stunning backdrop without leaving the city. You can capture both the natural beauty of the cliffs and the urban charm of the city. Sunrise sessions down on the boardwalk are perfect for early risers, and sunset sessions are especially magical here as the golden light reflects off the river and lights up the city skyline. There are also walking paths and park areas nearby, giving you a variety of settings within the same location for diverse and memorable photos.
5. Daisy Hill Conservation Park
If your family loves nature and wildlife, Daisy Hill Conservation Park is a fantastic choice. Located about 25 minutes south of Brisbane, this lush forested area is not only beautiful but home to a large koala population, making it a hit with kids and nature lovers alike. With its towering gum trees, open grassland areas, and peaceful walking trails, Daisy Hill offers a natural and tranquil setting for your Brisbane family photos. Morning shoots work well here, with the soft light filtering through the trees, and there’s plenty of space for the little ones to run around and explore. Plus, there’s the added bonus of possibly spotting some local wildlife!
